Oh, oh goodness, is this on? What do you mean this box can take messages? Is it like a mailbox, that's so quaint, do I speak now? Ah. Er, hello, you've reached Jack—
beep!
beep!
[text] backdated to yesterday i do what i want
I've thought about it for a while, but... no, this isn't your problem I suppose, though you should know: a young lady used a card today when she was with me. Unfortunately, it made her fall in love with me - if you see her outside our home, don't mind her too much.
[he's camped out in the library looking like a man who doesn't know what he's doing in life. alternatively he looks like he could use a really long nap, according to the lovely receptionist staring at him from across the room, but heyyy. what can you do?? he thought he'd at least tell jack, right?]
voice
so, when he reads oswald's text, his immediate thought is oh my god you were with someone else??? jack's heart falls through his stomach and kills the butterflies there, rip fluttershies, he curls up on the bed and buries his face in the nearest pillow.
RING RING PICK UP YOU TRAITOR]
voice
he's prepared. prepared as is in, he turned the volume down so that no one would heard jack yell if that's what awaits him.] --Jack? [he questions like, hello darling what did i do now?
other than the obvious, of course.]
[1/2]
[jack isn't yelling, fortunately. unfortunately, jack isn't yelling, his tone is pretty much quiet and hurt and oh god he's going to put grape tomatoes in your underwear drawer, oswald, so help him-]
voice
Fine. I won't kill her. What does she look like?
voice
[but oswald's going to be the one taking care of it.
so,] She has short, dark hair and purple eyes - she's an honest girl. [persistent, too.] Cheerful and smart, too.
[the way he's saying it though... it comes out like there's something about her that irks the crap out of him (there is, always), even if he keeps it to himself. he doesn't dislike her, but he isn't going to love her like that either. ugh.]
voice
...and how did she find out you live here? [there's a long pause.] I'm not threatened, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. What's her name? Where are you? What've you been doing? Are you still ignoring me? Oswaaaald.
[yyyyeah there it is, the whining. IT BEGINS.]
voice
She hasn't yet... [he was calling to say it just in case she did lol he's surrounded by weirdos. he picks his books up and heads off towards the bookshelves aw yea.] Her name is Lenalee... and I'm about to leave the library. I was looking something up... Why?
[there's no need to whine, he sounds like a child. strange that he'll take it from jack, but not from anyone else.]
voice
[he says, plaintively, rolling around on the sheets and really, really wanting to look this lenalee whelp up and probably teach her a lesson. or two. he did just say he wasn't going to kill her...
jack pouts magnificently at the dreamberry, too bad oswald can't see it.]
What'd you tell her?
voice
...? what did he tell her?]
...not much of anything, really. We spoke for a while and then I had to go. [he's not mentioning a lot though, no need to give jack he full story, instead opting for this. she's in love with him and he doesn't love her, they just met wow, but he didn't want to see her cry so he kept his tongue under wraps.
it's because of a card that she was like that, so he can't fault her. he might even see her again to indulge her for the time being; she's dependent on it and oswald doesn't like guilt.]
voice
aw.
jack tugs his blanket up and over his head.]
You're going to see her again, aren't you?
voice
[kinda like how he indulges alice?'s little quirks here and there, he's going to do the same for her until she comes to her senses. it's not much different from jack's indulging, so he thinks little of it.
--isn't he supposed to be ignoring jack? he slides the last book in and wonders.]
...you don't want me to?
voice
and. brusquely,]
Do what you want. [is this how oswald felt when jack was teasing vanessa...what an uncomfortable feeling. it makes him feel really bad, especially when oswald's ignoring him, but that one was his own fault so he supposes he has to suffer for it.] But please, Oswald, don't ignore me for much longer...I'm sorry.
voice
and,] I will. [he planned on doing what he wanted to do no matter what jack said.
though wowww jack's apologizing, really. he stops mid-summon once he's outside, pauuusing.] ...what are you sorry for?
[just so he's sure that jack understands.]
voice
well okay in a way he is. he's well aware though that he probably needs oswald a lot more than oswald needs him so, well,] For not thinking about how you'd feel when I do stupid things.
[jack laughs weakly, evening out into a sigh, feeling very sorry, for what he did, and for himself. if this was what guilt always felt like he wanted no part of it ever, but he's learning it and he can't unlearn it and this sucks royally.]
voice
...right, answering jack. he chalks up his voice somewhere under that next time, i walk,] ...don't do it again, then.
[he says quietly, slipping over to his dresser to start pulling dry clothes out, nevermind that it shouldn'tve been done in the first place.]
voice
Can I—
[see you now dies in his throat and he flumps back into his bed and cocoons himself in the blankets, ugh does he hate being ignored, he really does.]
I love you, okay? Don't stay out too late with that girl. [he says, instead, he'd like to say that it doesn't affect him but it does but whatever, oswald does really does what he wants. jack had no right to tell him otherwise.
damn he's going to devour a basket of oranges later :[ stress eating and all. and instead of ending the call right then and there like a sulky child he'll just throw his dreamberry right into the wall opposite his bed like an angrily sulky child, how about that.]
text
[w...ow, can jack just not?? oswald gives him all of five minutes to breathe and scream into a pillow like an angrily sulky child or whatever the heck he does before he texts him again after having changed his pants, working on his shirt.]
I was going to say yes, but if you insist on acting like a child I'm going to assume you don't want to see me.
[says he of the ended conversation and I-can't-get-my-arm-through-this-sleeve-why, grabbing his shirt and finding the hole, there, done, he kinda wants to go waistcoatless so he decides to do just that, buttoning on up and looking for not wet boots. orz. he leaves his dreamberry on top of the dresser, not even worried.]
text
and u said no every time
what am i supposed to think?
[sent ten minutes after, jack has now decided to take a blanket and pillows hostage and stow himself away under his bed. he's sulking mightily, look at him go. thirty seconds after that:]
i dont even want u to go to her but i know u dont want to make her cry because ur like that so
i just
im jealous.
[gold star for that sad attempt at being socially graceful, jack.]
text
You're supposed to ask anyway. [like the bullheaded boy you are, he means.
but anyway,] What are you jealous of? I don't see it, Jack - I'm yours and I don't love her at all. I don't plan on playing around.
[he doesn't do stupid things like call outings with friends dates because he's an uptight guy who thinks that's wrong and reeks of cheater cheater pumpkin eater in the worst way possible. gross things he'll never do, the book tbh. his boots go on and he's up off the bed and heading out of his room, en route to jack's.]
text
[pumpkin eaters, etc. jack would probably throw up before he cheats on oswald, ok. relationships man, how do they work? he fumbles with the send button and takes a deep breath and wonders where on earth that charisma he had projected so effortlessly had gone.
jack squints at the light of the dreamberry under the blanket and curls up, feeling a little colder.]
can i still see you then?
action
Of course, come here--
[sir hide under the bed, oswald slides his dreamberry into his pocket and waits for the man cocooned in pillows and a blanket to slip out from under there.]
You've nothing to fear... I'm not going to leave you.
action
You can't leave me, all right, you can't unless you manage to die or something.
[he says, finally crawling out from under the bed, blanket-cape around his head and shoulders, taking barefoot steps towards oswald.] And even then.
action
the things he'd endure to keep jack from worrying too much.]
...even then.
[he says back, leaning against the doorframe for a moment longer before righting himself and sighing, arms crossed and body language closed off.]
I won't leave you. [oswald gets out again, dropping his hands at his side and looking at jack like really, he looks like the most not scary bed monster in the world and oswald reaches out to bring him into his arms, blanket cape and all.]
action
the blanket falls down to the floor and jack nuzzles into him, quiet and faintly desperate and oswald, you have been missed. a lot.]
action
eventually,] ...better? [fingers winding around jack's hair, keeping close.]
action.
action.
You know, you're going to get wrinkles if you keep frowning like that.
action.
[ What's with your older guys napping under trees, it's weird. ]
I know you're going to hear about it anyway, so I'm here to tell you that Oswald and I are going to the zoo this weekend.
[ Which means you're coming along, even if uninvited, probably. You see where he's going with this. ]
action.
[he was going to stick out his tongue but then leo lays that on him and jack really does have to smile. it's an oily kind of smile.]
What, like a date? He's too old for you!
action.
You're really disgusting, you know? Maybe you should just stay here.
action.
You really should work on your invitations, o small and angry one, [he manages to say, dazed, help his forehead is going to be sore for a while...] but that's very nice of you.
action.
I'm not doing it to be nice, and you haven't any place to criticize my how I conduct my social dealings, okay? You're going to show up regardless of whether I'd like you to or not, so I might as well plan for it.
action.
[jack rubs his forehead ruefully.] Who else is coming?
action. 1/2
s i g h . ]
no subject
It's nothing to do with that, I just don't like you. [ Said almost too kindly, of course. He smiles. ] I've extended invitation to those in the house, and a few others.

voice,
voice,
voice,
[he hums a little.]
Does my big sister want a date?
voice,
It's not that! I wanted to invite you over! My big brother's birthday is tomorrow and I'm going to make it the best party I possibly can, with cakes and streamers and fencing and good things! And since he's so solemn I thought that I should invite my friends, so that someone could come to see him. I thought it would be lovely to have you come, too.
voice,
Oh, good heavens, I'll help with the preparations, then! Have you a motif? Colors? What sort of cake? You're such a thoughtful sister.
voice,
The cake won't be baked until morning. I'm going to get up extra early. I need some maraschino cherries for it, though.
voice,
[he breathes in audibly,] Goodness! I'll be able to see you fight, that'd be incredible!
voice,
